The Colors of Guatape

During my stay in Colombia, we took a day trip to one of the pueblos, specifically Guatape and el Penol. After much discussion, I convince my dad to go to Guatape by public transportation. It is actually quite easy to go by public transportation. We took the metro to the North Bus Terminal at Caribe Station and asked the information desk (who spoke English) to direct us where to catch the bus to Guatape. The trip took about two hours. My dad and I chose to go directly to Guatape first, rather than stop at el Penol, mostly because we wanted to note which bus to take for our return. We walked around Guatape and grabbed some lunch at el Portal. The food was pretty good and inexpensive, even the steak. While we were eating it started to drizzle, so we figured we should go to el Penol before the rain poured down. However, the rain stopped shortly afterwards and we could see a beautiful landscape of the reservoir with stormy clouds in the sky. We took a colorful tuk tuk up to el Penol and walked the short 700 stair hike to the top to see the spectacular view. After a long day, we were ready to head home.
