May 28/June 4, 2016
We arrived in Reykjavík pretty early. By the time we picked up our rental car, found our guesthouse, got some coffee, and settled down, we still had half a day left. Of course, we explored the city. We walked down the main road from the opera house, Harpa, to the church, Hallgrímskirkja. Apparently the smallest capital in the world, we could see all of Reykjavík from the top of Hallgrímskirkja. It just so happened that Reykjavík held a cultural festival that same day. People from many different countries, surprisingly a lot from Asia, participated in a parade by representing their country. During this parade, I wondered if these people lived in Iceland, and if so, what brought them to Iceland. We also walked to a sculpture of a Viking ship, sitting along the bay and enjoyed Minke Whale at a restaurant called Fish Market. We returned to Reykjavík at the end of our trip; although we did not explore the city much at the end due to time constraints. We did, however, go to an Icelandic club, which was enjoyable but unsettling at the same time. On our last night, we managed to catch the sunset at midnight after enjoying a dish of minke whale and puffin. Although the sun had set by the time we left the club, the time of day went from twilight to dusk without night. Just before boarding our plane the next day, we visit Blue Lagoon for some relaxation before hopping on a plane back home.
