Early morning, we began our long drive through Eastern Iceland. We arrived at our guesthouse in Fáskrúðsfjörður at around noon and had a lot of daylight left, so we asked the guesthouse owner for suggestions of wonderful locations in Eastern Iceland. The two places that stuck out to us were Seyðisfjörður and Borgarfjörður Eystri. We first went to Seyðisfjörður where we found our second highlight (or what I think is a highlight). Seyðisfjörður is a charming little town with French influence. Most towns in Iceland I found were not that interesting architecturally; however this town is one of the few that was gorgeous. Situated on the Eastern coast, Seyðisfjörður is a port town that welcomes ferries from all over Europe. To get there, we drove to Egilsstaðir, over a snowy mountain path, down a windy road, and into a valley that opened up to the town. We then returned to Egilsstaðir, and drove to Borgarfjörður Eystri. Here, we drove along a road that alternated between pavement and dirt, which winded through fields and along the shore. At Borgarfjörður Eystri we found another puffin home. However, we were not as lucky to see puffins. We waited for 2 hours for the puffins to return home for the night, but I guess it just wasn’t late enough because they just continued swimming in the sea. However, we did catch a few puffins- a puffin couple, flying puffins, and even a puffin peeing outwards away from his home. We couldn’t stay too late because we had a long drive back to Fáskrúðsfjörður, but we did catch the colors on mountains as the sun set.
